LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: NO POLITICS, PLEASE
Dear WRLW: I enjoy your paper and believe it's good for our community. However, last night as I was reading the Meet Your Neighbor story, I was surprised and a bit angered to see politics inserted into the middle of it. If I want to read a political slant, I can go to the letters section at the DMN or any number of sites online. I read your paper for news and events in our neighborhood; I read your paper for relief! Someone missed the boat on...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: RUN TO THE TRASH
Dear Nancy: Having recently moved to Dallas from Kaua'i, I immediately joined For the Love of the Lake and began doing their regular clean ups as well as my own unscheduled ones. This January "clean up," my partner and I gathered three blue bags of recyclables and two black bags of trash while enjoying the beauty of the lake, the ducks, geese, cormorants, pelicans, etc. and of course the runners in a race taking place while we were cleaning. ...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: GARLAND ROAD BOYCOTT?
To WRLW: This morning, Sat., Jan, 28, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the announcer at the Mellew Productions/Run On The Texas Half at Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake in Dallas clearly called for a boycott of Garland Road businesses. Apparently, the businesses along Garland Road have asked that commercial operations at White Rock Lake not park on their premises, and race promoters are clearly angry enough to ask for a public boycott. The a...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: KUDOS TO SHARI
To the editor, owner, and anyone else who might read this or be interested: Shari Stern did an article with two pictures that ran on the front page about my new company, Silver Star Fitness, and some of the people I've been fortunate to help. It ran the last week of December. Shari was very thorough in all her research and most professional in her dealings with me and my clients she interviewed. The article was wonderfully done; I had many c...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: PLAYGROUND FENCE NEEDED
Dear WRLW: The Lake Park Estates community and others in the surrounding area appreciate the near completion of the new playground at Lake Highlands Park at the corner of Buckner and Lake Highlands Roads. The site awaits a permanent fence between the soccer field and the playground and upgrades to the portable toilets. Just one other feature is missing: a fence between the play area and a steep ravine. Prevention is always the prudent cou...

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Praying for Parkland
Dear Friends in the Dallas Faith Community: I’m writing today to invite your participation in a simple gesture to strengthen our community in a way that unites us across lines of faith, race, gender, politics and ZIP codes. This is an idea that requires no expenditure of money and no organization of committees or study groups. Would you and your congregants join us in a Day of Prayer for Parkland Hospital? This may be an audacious goal, but...

Letter from the Editor: Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus
First published in The New York Sun on September 21, 1897 Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared ...

Letter to the Editor
We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun: Dear Editor— I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? Virginia O’Hanlon 115 W. Ninety-Fifth St.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Helping Others
Dear Nancy, As we honored our courageous veterans for their service and sacrifice on Veterans Day one local Jubilee Park Resident encouraged her fellow neighbors to honor and help our Veterans every day of the year. “November 11 is Veterans Day but what about tomorrow? And the other 364 days of the year? With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season just around the corner, it can be easy to move on to other matters,” Miss Claudia Lozano ...

Letters to the Editor: Perry’s Ponzi
Dear Editor: Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry’s unfounded attacks on Social Security continued this past week where he once again declared Social Security “is a Ponzi scheme.” He continued, “The idea that [young people are] working and paying into Social Security today, that the current program is going to be there for them, is a lie. It is a monstrous lie on this generation, and we can’t do that to them.” Governor Perry’s doesn’...

Letters to the Editor: The People in Your Neighborhood
Dear WRLW: Your Letter From the Editor this week prompted me to add my own recent experience of the good neighbors we have in our White Rock Lake community. On a hot Sunday afternoon in July, I was enjoying a bicycle ride with my husband around the lake when an instant’s mistake caused me to be thrown off my bike. While I was unconscious, a dozen joggers and rollerbladers and riders stopped to help my husband call 911, identify our loca...

Letters to the Editor: Ethan’s Army
Hi WRLW, I would like to thank you for running the article in your paper about Ethan and our volleyball tournament and raffle. Your article was much more than I expected. Ethan and his mom were so excited to see his picture in the paper. The tournament and raffle were a huge success. We could not have done it without your help and the help of so many generous people. We raised $2,007 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We exceeded our...
