'Pup Crawl' to benefit GALT

In honor of Greyhound Awareness Month, The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) will host the third annual Deep Ellum Pup Crawl and Poker Run on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Registration begins 12:30 p.m. at Reno’s Chop Shop Saloon in Deep Ellum (210 North Crowdus St., 75226). Big Tex goes up in flames
At 10:15 a.m. Oct. 19, reports came in that the iconic cowboy who welcomes fairgoers had caught on fire. The fire came on the last weekend of the 2012 fair and Texas Storm Chasers has posted audio of the call on YouTube. Dallas Fire-Rescue units had a some fun reporting updates. "Got a rather tall cowboy with all his clothes burned off," one responder said. "Howdy folks, it's hot," said another.

Award-winning journalist John McCaa, longtime news anchor of WFAA-TV in Dallas, will give the thirteenth annual Rosine Smith Sammons Lecture in Media Ethics at SMU.
