Miles makes surprise visit
DISD Superintendent Mike Miles paid a surprise visit to parents, administrators and faculty attending the February Woodrow Wilson PTA meeting held on Feb. 11 in the school library. The superintendent was present at the school for an “Open Mike Live” community meeting held earlier in the school auditorium. Daughters of World War II will present a program on Saturday, Feb. 23 to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the most famous “shot” seen around the world. The shot refers to the photograph of the flag being raised on February 23, 1945 on the island of Iwo Jima, a battle marked by some of the fiercest fighting of World War II. As their disabled cruise ship began to roll, Vicki White, Karen Peeler and Kim Hext prepared for the worst.
