Seventh grader Miles Okamoto won the St. John’s National Geographic Bee on Jan. 17 after six rounds of competition, as well as a final, written challenge round. Now in its 24th year, the National Geographic Bee awards a $25,000 college scholarship to the first-place winner of the national competition, which will take place May 22-24, in Washington, D.C.

By winning the St. John’s Bee, Miles advanced to the next level of competition, a written exam that determines state competitors.

This was Miles’ second year to place first in the St. John’s Bee. Seventh grader Parker Allen placed second, and Katie Abughazaleh (seventh grade), Libby Kraemer (eighth grade) and William Turner (fifth grade) tied for third place.
