On Jan. 27-28, Woodrow Wilson Debate competed in the first-ever Texas Urban Debate League State Championship tournament sponsored by the Texas Bar Foundation. The Dallas Urban Debate Alliance went up against its Houston counterpart for a chance to bring home a Texas State title. The trip to Houston was the first of its kind nationally, and included participation in a career and college fair. At that event they learned more about debate opportunities in college, law school and the legal profession.

Woodrow had eight students competing: Barrett Blaker, Nicholas Foley, Javier Gonzalez, Caleb Gorham, Anna Sekhon, Mac Murchison, Zane Wittrock and Ravi Lawton. The sponsor was Bob Hearne, whose father John graduated from Woodrow in 1960.

In October, the team participated in the Bickel & Brewer Foundation International Public Policy Forum. In April 2010 they won their division in the third annual Chase Urban Debate National Championship in New York City.
