The adventures of Huckleberry Finn are still afloat on White Rock Lake thanks to St John's Episcopal School eighth graders Brandon Bush, Anton Broden and Paint Smith.

As part of their class study of Mark Twain's classic novel, the three students – also members of Boy Scout Troop 636 – chose as their project making a replica of Huck's raft.

It was launched Wednesday, Feb. 22 in front of the Bath House Cultural Center. The raft floated, the boys stayed on, and everyone considered it a great success. Former students built a raft for the first time two years ago. The raft will be on display at St. John's until, according to Smith, it could make another voyage when the water is warmer and it's not so windy.
