Dear WRLW:

I attended a meeting at The Bath House Cultural Center about the proposed White Rock Lake Spillway sculpture, and I need to comment on the piece presented there.

I was pleased that Brower Hatcher, a sculptor of international renown, was selected. His other public artworks compliment each city project he represented, and I was surprised, as was much of the audience, about the piece that was selected for White Rock Lake.

The static vertical nature, although it may be seen from afar, has little relationship to the Spillway or the beauty of the lake. It lacks a defining theme and fluidity.

This sculpture will be extremely important to our community and the City of Dallas. It has always been intended to be iconic, representative of the lake, with strong artistic beauty.

Since there is no immediate time limit, I strongly suggest that the City meet with the artist again to urge him to create a more iconic and fitting sculpture that integrates the beauty and importance of White Rock Lake and the community of East Dallas.

Dallas deserves great public art!

Regards,

Anna Palmer
