“Keepn’ Our City” Green, a school wide celebration, will launch with a tree planting ceremony on March 30 at 1 p.m. Please join us as we plant four fruit trees beside the garden. TXU, Keep Dallas Beautiful and the Promise of Peace Community Garden are sponsoring the event inspired by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s “Fruit of Hope” initiative to fight hunger in Texas. The ceremony will include the unveiling of our new garden mural created by artist Travis Rex and the Alex Sanger Garden Club. Travis has donated his time and support to transform a rusty tool shed into a masterpiece that reflects our very own students' reflections of the garden through the seasons.

Classrooms will continue the theme by reading “City Green,” by author DyAnne Disalvo and making sunflowers to decorate the hallways. The PTA will be selling these books after school starting in April. On April 16, Ms. Dislavo will visit Sanger to conduct a workshop with all first and second graders. All families of Alex Sanger are invited to the Promise of Peace Garden for its third annual Eco Fest, “Keepn’ Our City Green,” where Dislavo will conduct two story times and book signings. The Eco Fest is on April 15 from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free! There will also be live music on a solar-powered stage and eco friendly vendors, as well as kids activities.

We are looking forward to a fantastic spring in the garden with an array of crops that will be harvested and served at an end of the year school Garden to Table tasting. Thank you to the Early Childhood PTA for funding the author's visit, the City Green books, and the paint for beautiful outdoor mural. Get your Green on! Neighborhoods Rule!
