The “Clowns” are a group of retired and semi-retired cyclist who ride recumbent bikes. They meet at Barbec’s on Garland Road, eat breakfast and then ride for a couple of hours. The group has been riding and eating for a couple of years and sometimes they have as many as 15-20 riders/eaters.

A few months ago the riders came upon a young girl on an old beat-up and unsafe three-wheel trike. As they talked about her, the members came up with the idea of buying her a new trike and presenting it to her some morning after breakfast. Last Thursday they did. The girl, Stacy Singel, was overjoyed.

A little history of “Recumbent Bike Enthusiasts of North Texas” AKA “Rbent.” This recumbent rider group was the brainchild of Bob Wand and Jim Aylor in about 1995-96. At their first ride they had three riders. Today they have 200 members, with several group rides each month. Most members are retired or semi-retired. One day, another cyclist on the trail was heard to say, “Here come the Clowns.” The name stuck and the group has lots of fun with it.
