Mr. Brian Shivers
Dallas Arboretum Chairman of the Board
5600 W. Lovers Ln., #227
Dallas, TX 75209
Dear Chairman Shivers:
I am deeply concerned that the Arboretum’s standing in the community is taking a decidedly negative turn. A number of the community leaders in the surrounding neighborhoods have already organized an anti-parking campaign. This effort is likely to cast the Arboretum as the enemy of the White Rock Lake Park and call into question our very mission. The influence and commitment of these people should not be underestimated.
I know that the legal process has already begun in this fight, but I believe it is possible to engage these community leaders in a mutual dialogue to address the lack of adequate parking facilities at the Arboretum.
As a result of the recent redistricting, I now represent a number of these communities in the Legislature. I would be happy to reach out to them and offer to convene a meeting so that we can bring both sides together and find a solution that doesn’t involve an expensive court battle.
In order for this effort to be successful, I believe the Board needs to express a determination to work with all concerned parties to find a mutually agreeable solution to our parking dilemma.
The Arboretum is an internationally renowned jewel in Dallas and we must all work together to make sure that nothing diminishes its value. Failing to adequately address the community's concerns will have a long-lasting detrimental impact.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding this offer.
Sincerely,
Eric Johnson
State Representative
District 100
