On May 17, about 100 St. John’s Episcopal School parents, faculty, friends and volunteers participated in the Eleventh Annual Crusader Club Classic golf tournament at Dallas Athletic Club.

The tournament was organized by the Crusader Club, the school’s dads’ group. Crusader Club co-chair Steve Williamson describes the event as “a great way to support St. John’s and spend time with friends.” Proceeds from the tournament help fund special athletic programs and service learning opportunities.

The team of Mike Higgins, Van Kimbro, Chris Rodgers and Kyle Smith won overall first place.

Overall second place went to Steve Christensen, Guy Josselyn, Mark Giles and Rod Wright. Net first place winners were the alumni parent team of Brian Bessellieu, Jay Johnson, Robert Shive, Mark Strickland and Chuck Walton. (Shive and Stickland founded the Crusader Club in 2001.)

Second place net went to alumni team Jacob Bender, Jeffers Rader, Cole Rolle and Frank Vecella.

After an afternoon on DAC’s Jack Nicklaus-designed course, players returned to the clubhouse for an awards ceremony.

The tradition of the Classic continues to grow since its inception in 2001 and has generated nearly $400,000 to benefit St. John’s students.
